Echoes of Moengo

In the exhibition Echoes of Moengo, Karen Sargsyan, Marcel Pinas, and Iris Bouwmeester bring their unique artistic voices together to tell a layered and compelling story. Inspired by Moengo, Suriname, and its transformation, the exhibition reflects themes of culture, nature, and memory.

A Dialogue Between Worlds

Karen Sargsyan captures movement and humanity in his delicate paper sculptures, which seem to float through the space like fragments of mythical stories.

Marcel Pinas draws on the spirit of Moengo and the Maroon culture, using sculptures and symbols to honor and reinterpret tradition.

Iris Bouwmeester creates poetic, layered installations that make landscapes and time feel tangible.

Moengo: A Source of Inspiration

From a mining town to a center for the arts—Moengo is at the heart of this exhibition. Thanks to Marcel Pinas and Tembe Art Studio, the town has become a space for artistic exchange and community empowerment. Karen Sargsyan and Iris Bouwmeester participated in an artist-in-residence program with Marcel Pinas, immersing themselves in the environment and stories of Moengo. Their experiences there have deeply influenced the works presented in this exhibition.

The Power of Art as Connection

Echoes of Moengo invites reflection on how art links the past, present, and future. It explores themes of identity, heritage, and the impact of collaboration. The exhibition is both a tribute to Moengo and an invitation to discuss the lasting role of art in shaping our world.

A compelling collaboration at KERSGALLERY, where Moengo’s stories continue to inspire.

Opening & Exhibition Dates

The exhibition opens on February 7 from 17:00 to 19:00 and runs until April 6 at KERSGALLERY.
