WORK DESCRIPTION:

Formally, both series connect with each other, but the atmosphere and associations differ day and night. In the 2019 series, Birza groups animal and plant motifs into humorous fantasy compositions that are  reminiscent of his system paintings from recent years. The corona drawings from 2020 have a grim and dark atmosphere and show people and monsters who are weighed down by an invisible enemy and yet humor is also present here as a perspective. This series relates to the Cozy Monsters paintings that Birza made 23 years ago.

Birza is a pur sang draftsman. These drawings invite to be viewed up close. The paper dictates the freedom and speed of work and offers viewers a chance to glimpse what goes on in the artist’s creative brain.
