Jop Vissers Vorstenbosch describes himself as a ‘painter who makes up all kinds of things.’ For instance, by showcasing his paintings in self-built sculptural environments that add a strongly defining context, but also by taking a lightbox as the base and placing several layers of painted plexiglass in front of it. In this way, painterly installations are created where, instead of the layers of paint in a traditional painting, layers of light and material determine the image. For events including the festival Into The Great Wide Open, Jop uses this combination to create a group of several meters long works that refer to the flickering light of a dying fluorescent tube.
